November Yellow Challenge and the Wooden Thingy

November challenge was ........ something yellow - a challenging color for most of us.

Diane used a hint of yellow as she made a head from an online class taught  by Judy Skeel.  She has done a very nice job.  The base is the wooden thingy that was also part of the challenge.

Ronda, on the other hand, used a lot of yellow on her Sunshine Sue who is a Tilda pattern from one of Tone Finnanger's books.  Sue's green pot of flowers in her pocket is the wooden thingy.  The flowers are cut out from the fabric print.  MORE yellow!
Tone doesn't put mouths on her Tildas, however, I had to put a mouth on my doll.  She looked odd without it!

December is our holiday get together and gift exchange.  No challenge for this meeting, although most of the gifts are handmade by our members.

Cage Dolls

After seeing the cage dolls in the latest Soft Dolls and Animals Magazine, we made cage dolls for our September challenge.   What do you think?
Charley made  Santa on a music box.  Diane made a sweet gal on a candle holder.  Aren't they clever!

Susie was busy selling her house and Ronda was finishing her Treasures of the Gypsy entry.

For October we are doing something "Halloweeny".  Should be lots of fun!

Pincushions

August Challenge -  Dolls with Arty Attitudes - Pincushions

In all shapes and sizes.  There are lots of ideas on the internet for pincushions.
Charlie's little gal has a big hat to hold pins for her.
Diane's pincushion is weighted firmly with a candle holder from the thrift shop.
Ronda's teapot is kind of rolly-polly and needs a base to keep from rolling away.

Our next challenge is a cage doll.  Look in the Fall issue of Art Doll Quarterly to see ideas and the inspiration for this challenge.

We are Published!

One of our monthly challenges was to use a Soft Dolls & Animals Magazine pattern and submit an article with pictures of our creations.  The September issue arrived in the mailbox this afternoon and there we are on page 43.
 Our Vernas!  How exciting!

We had a lot of fun with Verna.  She was a challenge in that she had so many pieces, but oh the creative opportunity.

Special thanks to Diane who photographed our dolls, wrote the story and sent them to Soft Dolls & Animals Magazine.

May Meeting of Dolls with Arty Attitudes

Our meeting for May was on the 4th Thursday of the month due to schedule conflicts and then we still had schedule conflicts!

Charlie has been busy making dolls.  She has a wedding coming up so she made bride & groom dolls similar to ones she saw in the current Art Doll Quarterly magazine.  They were quite clever.
The groom's tuxedo is a wine wrap that she found on sale.  The bride's gown is simple and lovely.

Our Challenge for May/June is to make the Piper doll from Soft Dolls & Animals magazine.  Charlie and Lisa finished theirs.  In fact Lisa made two!

Lisa's two dolls.  She did a wonderful job and creatively used fabric for the hair.

Here is Charlie with her Piper riding a dragon.  The dragon pattern also came from Soft Dolls & Animals.  Lisa is hidden behind the dragon.

When all the Pipers are done (there are three more to be completed)  we will send pictures to Soft Dolls & Animals magazine for their pattern contest.  Our dolls all have a common element but are so different.

June meeting is on the 3rd Thursday - 6/20 - 6:30 p.m. Crossroads Mall.
Come join us!

Traveling Dolls

Our traveling dolls have returned to their homes.  We traded doll making materials and out of those materials these five different dolls evolved.

Aren't they fun!

April Meeting

Dolls with Arty Attitudes will be meeting Thursday, April 18th at Crossroads Mall.  (3rd Thursday of the month)   6:30 p.m.

We will be revealing our finished challenge dolls from February - Everyone brought a bag of "stuff" to make a doll and we traded bags.   The rules were simple "Make a Doll" using the contents of the bags.  Or not.  Add to and/or otherwise embellish to make a finished doll.

As always there will be Show & Tell.

Come join us!

March Dolls

Lisa showed us how to make these adorable little Japanese girls from the yogurt bottle that was the subject of a previous challenge.  They were fun to make and with some practice relatively easy.  They are made with washi paper, wire and glue.  No sewing required!

Happy Valentine's Day

Our February meeting features Valentine Wishes and a lot of creativeness.  From valentine shaped bodies to fairies and jesters along with recycled materials table and chairs and a forest of fabric & champagne cork trees!    All fun.  All creative.

Several months ago Diane Magnuson had shared with us that she had signed up for an online class by Barbara Schoenoff.  She brought the finished doll as Show & Tell.  She turned out beautiful with many layers of detail and color.
Excellent work Diane!

March & April challenge is an exchange.  We each gathered a bag full of materials to be assembled by someone else.  At the April meeting we will unveil our creations and return them to their original owner.

At the March meeting we are going to make Japanese paper dolls with the guidance of Lisa.  She has made many of these dolls and they are so cute!

So many things in the works for us - we also selected one of the Soft Dolls & Animals Magazine patterns to make and enter into their challenge.  We were all in agreement that Piper from the July 2010 would be fun to make.  She seems to be challenging but not too difficult.  Her photos are due to the magazine by early July so we will bring our finished dolls to the June meeting - ready to photograph.

Whew!!!  We have a busy spring lined up.  Come join us for the fun.

February Meeting

Dolls with Arty Attitudes has re-scheduled the February 2013 meeting due to a conflict.  We will be meeting MONDAY 2/18/13 (just this one time) - same place Crossroads Mall - center court - look for a table with ladies showing off their dolls - just around the corner from the sushi place.  Same time - 6:30 p.m.

Last month the tables we usually sit at were moved in front of the entry doors.  Too Cold!  Every time someone came in the doors a blast of cold air wafted over the area.  So we discovered a round table just behind the sushi place in the same vicinity except not as visible to anyone who doesn't know where we are.   We found that the round table is easier to talk and share with the whole group.  And the more the merrier!

If you are in the area do come by and join us on Monday, 2/18, 6:30 p.m.

Bring a valentine of some sort, preferably made by you (or selected by you) but doll related to share.

And bring a starter kit of doll makings for our 'sort of' round robin challenge.  We will each bring materials to make a doll.  We will trade the makings and each will make a doll (of your choice) from those materials for the person who brought the materials.  You can use all or some of the materials provided.   Do you have some fabric but no idea how to combine it?

As always if you have questions be sure to contact Diane Magnuson at dianemagnuson@hotmail.com

January 2013

What to do with this?

Well.......................this!  As only doll makers can do.
